History of ISS

What started as a single movie night attended by five people as become so much more. In October 2002 two women sought to bring together the bi-sexual, lesbian, and questioning women of Indianapolis. Starting with simple Meet & Greets the newly founded IndySoulSistahs slowly took shape. In June 2003 the IndySoulSistahs join with the ladies of Deeper than Color to host our first Ice Breaker BBQ. Also in June the IndySoulSistahs made our first appearance at IndyPride, marking the first ever appearance of an african american female group.
In late 2003 at the suggestion of one of our members, we began our most popular event to date: our Sunday Dinner Discussions. In 2004 we started girls night out hosting many functions at the now defunct Jaquars. Including our Valentine's day dance and Halloween party. 2005 we joined with Wet Promotions to help bring OOZHEE to Indianapolis for the first time. Look for us as we resume the Dinner Discussions, our softball game scheduled for May, our continued presence at IndyPride and maybe even host a hot party or two. SEE YOU THIS SUMMER

Why?

Promote visibility and unity among lesbians of color in Indianapolis.

Foster friendships and connections between lesbians of color through social activities.

Provide a safe space for lesbians of color to socialize outside the clubs and bars.

Get away from every social group being a dating service.

The Need

Are you still in the closet everywhere but the club?

Do you wish you knew more lesbians in your area?

Do you feel like there's nothing to do or no where for us to go?

Do you want more friends in the life that are just friends?

We welcome everyone but make no mistakes ladies we are here as a resource for black women here in Indianapolis. Lesbian life is not lived in the clubs and neither should we. Come make friends and build those connections we all need to not only live life but to live in the life. Come and be a part of a social group that's purely a social group. Check out our Up Coming Events or join our email list. The Indy Soul Sistahs are a non profit group. We do welcome your support by proud wearing or displaying Soul Sistahs Gear.
